New York City, the state’s most famous destination, is home to more than 8 million residents, along with a plethora of must-see attractions, including the Statue of Liberty, World Trade Center, Empire State Building, Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, Bronx Zoo, Rockefeller Center, and Broadway.
The most visited city in America, New York is also a thriving mecca in both the the media and entertainment industries, home to scores of film and television studios, as well as a wide array of advertising, fashion, design, publishing, and architecture firms. Beyond the world’s most famous city, New York state includes a wide assortment of meadows, mountains, lakes, state parks, and forest preserves. To the south are the Catskill Mountains, while the Adirondacks lie west of the Lake Champlain Valley. From the Hudson River and the cities of Albany and Troy, The Hudson Valley stretches south to Yonkers in Westchester County. Niagara Falls is located upstate.
Along with its other amenities, New York is a sports fan’s paradise, home to a wide variety of successful franchises, including Major League Baseball’s Yankees, who play in the Bronx, and the Mets, who are based in Queens. In addition, Baseball’s Hall of Fame is housed in Cooperstown.
Along with baseball, New York is home to three NHL franchises and a pair of NBA teams. The NFL’s Buffalo Bills play in the suburb of Orchard Park, while two other metropolitan teams, the Giants and the Jets, play in nearby East Rutherford, New Jersey. The state is also host to the Belmont Stakes, the final jewel in horse racing’s Triple Crown.
